advance verb

advance is one of 3000 most frequently used words in spoken and written English.

1 [intransitive] to move towards someone or something, especially in a slow and determined way – used especially to talk about soldiers: เคลื่อนที่ไปยังผู้ใดหรือสิ่งใด โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่ง ในลักษณะที่ช้าๆ และแน่วแน่ ใช้โดยเฉพาะพูดเกี่ยวกับทหาร

Example:

A line of US tanks slowly advanced. ขบวนรถถังของประเทศสหรัฐฯ เคลื่อนที่ไปข้างหน้า อย่างช้าๆ

advance on

Troops advanced on the rebel stronghold (= moved towards it in order to attack it). กองกำลังทหารเคลื่อนที่ไปยังที่มั่นของพวกก่อการจราจล (เพื่อโจมตีที่มั่นนั้น)

advance across/through/towards

Example:

advance somebody something

Example:

5 [intransitive] if the price or value of something advances, it increases – used especially when talking about the stock exchange ถ้าราคาหรือมูลค่าของสิ่งใด advances ก็คือราคาหรือมูลค่าของสิ่งนั้นเพิ่มขึ้น - ถูกใช้โดยเฉพาะเมื่อพูดเกี่ยวกับตลาดหลักทรัพย์

Example:

7 [intransitive and transitive] formal เป็นคำที่ถูกใช้อย่างเป็นทางการ if you advance a film, clock, musical recording etc, or if it advances, it goes forward ถ้าคุณ advance ภาพยนตร์ นาฬิกา เครื่องบันทึกเสียง ฯลฯ หรือถ้ามัน advance ไป มันจะหมุนไปข้างหน้า

Example:
